Khao Luang Cave – The Cave of Light and Faith
Khao Luang Cave is one of the most important natural and historical tourist attractions in Phetchaburi Province. It is located on Khao Luang Mountain, Thong Chai Subdistrict, Mueang Phetchaburi District, about 5 kilometers from the city center. Inside the cave, there are beautiful stalactites and stalagmites, as well as a skylight through which sunlight shines into the cave, creating an even more stunning scene.
Khao Luang Cave is located just 5 kilometers from downtown Phetchaburi. It is a natural cave famous for its beauty and sacredness, housing many ancient Buddha statues believed to date back to the late Ayutthaya period.
During the reigns of King Rama IV and King Rama V, this cave was restored and used as a place for meditation. King Rama V personally visited to pay respects here and graciously ordered the construction of several additional Buddha statues inside the cave, many of which remain well-preserved to this day.
The light from heaven awaited.
One of the highlights that sets Khao Luang Cave apart from other caves is the large natural light shaft located above the main chamber. When sunlight hits at the right time, approximately between 9:30 and 11:00 AM, a beam of light beautifully shines down through the shaft into the cave, resembling light from heaven.
The light that falls upon the main large Buddha statue in the center of the cave creates a scene both beautiful and inspiring. It has become an iconic image of Phetchaburi city that every visitor must capture.

- There are many monkeys living in the area; please be careful with valuables, food, and hanging items.
- There are about 150 steps to climb, or you can take an electric tram (with a small additional fee).
- From downtown Phetchaburi, its just a 10-minute drive.
- Close to other attractions such as Phra Nakhon Khiri (Khao Wang) and Wat Mahathat Worawihan.
